Conception after oral contraceptive use
In spite of all the proven benefits of contraceptive methods…much myths and misconceptions surround them. Women tend to depend more on the existing false notions being circulated in families and friends. The real advantages of pills still remain underrated. Moreover there is a common belief amongst people that taking a contraceptive for a certain period would hamper the reproductive process or decrease the chances of child bearing… which is completely wrong.
Women may need to use reversible contraception to prevent unintended pregnancy and do so for a variety of reasons. Many a young women would like to delay pregnancy for societal /educational/professional/ financial reasons…. many a mother of a child who desire another child wish to space their pregnancies in accord with their goals for family size. What is common to all of them is the anxiety whether they will be able to regain their fertility status to normal levels and how soon.
For some methods like condoms , diaphragm etc the woman can start trying to get pregnant as soon as she stops using the method. But with the oral contraceptives the conception might be slightly delayed by a cycle or two . Studies have proved that for most women there will be little or no delay and there is no evidence suggesting that pill causes permanent sterility …. A taboo amongst many people.
